Be flexible when approaching a patient about participating in the study. Use the RA script as a guide, but do not feel like you have to adhere to it rigidly. Some patients may want to ask you questions first or hear you give a brief overview of the study before proceeding. To be prepared for this scenario, always have a Patient Fact Sheet on hand when going to speak with a patient. You can use it as a reference for answering questions and let them look it over as well. However, do try to keep this conversation brief if you are still in the patient’s exam room. If possible, continue your conversation in another available location so as not to back up the physician’s clinic flow.
