ABOUT THE SHOULDER STUDY RESEARCH GROUP

Shoulder pain affects millions of individuals worldwide and can lead to significant disability. Shoulder symptoms accounted for an estimated 10.7 million ambulatory care visits to physician offices in the United States in 2013. An estimated 272,148 surgeries were performed for rotator cuff disorders in 2006. Physical therapy and surgery are the standard treatments for rotator cuff tears. Both of these treatments are effective. However, it is still debated which of these two treatments is more effective and if their outcomes differ based on patient characteristics. Our research group is dedicated to answering these questions and many others with the goal of improving patient care and satisfaction.
